Blogs and search engines for more traffic
by Paul Easton

One of the newer ideas going around is the use of blogs as a way of helping search engine ranking. I will cover why and a little about the thoughts behind it.

A blog (or weblog) is basically a journal that is available on the web. The activity of updating a blog is "blogging" and someone who keeps a blog is a "blogger." Blogs are typically updated daily using software that allows people with little or no technical background to change the content.

Postings on a blog are almost always arranged in chronological order with the most recent additions featured most prominently.

So a blog is really a web based version of a diary that required no web design skills to create. Blogs or blogging really come to mainstream around the point where Google bought into a company that provided blog services:

www.blogger.com

Then people started to wake up and take note then. Google sees this as a way of having very up to date information available to all. So what does it mean to those marketing online?

1. Relationships -Blogs can ad a personal touch to how you can contact your visitors, allow them to not only learn about the business you are involved in but your personal side.

2. Search Engine friendly- Search engines like blogs as they are fresh information. Also they allow archiving which means previous pages are stored online and any links to your business site are also stored. This is a great way to help your own site in the search engines.

3. It's another marketing promotion method -Anybody can start there own, starting at no cost at blogger (they don't allow pictures but design ideas they have look good) Blogs are still in there infancy as a marketing tool they are an easy to use future tool which as they become more mainstream. As an idea the term: blog was searched 1312615 last month and that was only on overture.com and Google's numbers would be much higher.
